Good character is taught—it
is not innate. Character is formed by modeling,
by instruction, and by interactions with people who are
important in the daily lives of students. Since formal
character education in schools began in the late 1980s,
it has gained the support of teachers, parents, business
leaders, and government. More and more schools are incorporating
character-related curriculum into their instruction—and
expecting good character in their school environment.
